Sands Groups are run on a voluntary basis by people who have themselves experienced the death of a baby. The Group’s main role is to help bereaved parents and families through either regular support meetings, telephone support or email support.
Support is provided by trained befrienders. Befrienders are parents (and sometimes other family members) who are past the first year anniversary of their baby’s death and have attended and passed Sands Befriender Training.
Many groups also get involved with some of the following:
- Working with local hospitals
- Raising awareness and working with the media
- Fundraising events
- Newsletter
- Memorial services and events
- Creating a Sands garden
