When a baby dies, the hospital should look at the care the mother and baby received to understand what happened. This is usually carried out at a meeting of the health professionals (doctors and midwives) involved. It is separate from the post mortem, which happens when the baby’s body is sent for tests.
Sands would like to hear from parents about their experiences of this review process. We are keen to find out whether a review was carried out following their baby's death, and if so whether and how parents were involved. If the parents were not involved, would they liked to have been? We would also like to know how parents think they should be involved.
If you are the parent of a baby who has died, we would be very grateful if you could complete this short survey so we are able to better advocate for the needs and wishes of parents as part of the review process.
