Bereaved parents on the Wirral are inviting anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby, to attend a new Sands support meeting in the North West.
The Chester Sands group (who also meet in Hoole) have recently recruited three new befrienders, which means they are now able to reach more bereaved parents and their families than before with one additional support meeting per month on the Wirral.
The first meeting will take place on Tuesday 14 August from 7pm-9pm at The Church of St John The Divine Community Centre, Frankby Road, Greasby, Wirral CH49 3PE.
Regular monthly meetings will take place thereafter on the second Tuesday of the month at the same venue. Bereaved parents and their families in the North West are very welcome to drop in for a cup of tea and a chat.
Sands’ groups support parents whose baby has died before, during or shortly after birth and are run on a voluntary basis by parents who have themselves experienced the death of a baby.
The role of a befriender is to provide support in person at group meetings.
Our chief executive, Dr Clea Harmer, said: “We hope that by recruiting three new volunteer befrienders at the Chester group we will be able to reach out and help more bereaved parents and their families in the North West.
“Bereaved parents tell us that other parents who have experienced the death of a baby are able to offer real understanding and empathy. I would urge anyone in the local area who is newly or long ago bereaved to come along to a group meeting in Chester or on the Wirral in the future.
“We are dedicated to providing emotional support and information after a baby dies for as long as it is needed.”
We are pleased to be growing and reaching out to bereaved parents with new befrienders, in the charity’s 40th anniversary this year.
Chester Sands’ regular monthly meeting takes place on the last Wednesday of each month from 8pm-9.30pm at All Saints Church Centre, Vicarage Road, Hoole, Chester CH2 3HZ.
