Over 50 years ago my Mum was forced to carry her baby daughter, Joanne to full term, even though she had died inside the womb a month earlier, no explanation given, but my Mum believed it was because the Army Doctor had turned the baby. The baby was taken away as soon as it was born & not mentioned again. My Mum was devastated, as any Mum would be, as I’m sure was my Dad. She was living in Germany, (forces family), without the support of her extended family back in England.
As children ourselves we did not understand what had happened, nobody talked about it, we just knew how sad our Mum was. My Mum & Dad went on to have more children and we lived like any other normal loving family! Only my Mum silently grieved for her baby Joanne & was always very emotional on her birthday.
My Mum recently passed away at the age of 87, and not long before this, she actually said for the first time ever, what an awful time it was for her, how she had felt & how differently Joanne’s death would be remembered today,
Thankfully times have changed for the better & the support that is offered to bereaved parents, photos, memory boxes go some way to ease the pain. Also the research into death in babies is vital in reducing the number of parents who have to experience this.
We have sold some of Mum's ornaments & would like to make a donation of £250, which we have done through your donation page, in memory of our sister Joanne & because we know our Mum would not want other Mum's to suffer the same experience that she did.
