We are working with Black Mums Upfront, a London based collective who believe all Black mothers need to be heard, seen and valued, on vital research to help build a picture of the support needed for bereaved Black mothers and fathers.
When you suffer the tragedy of baby loss, all you want, other than your baby back, is to feel understood. Sadly, for Black people, because of ideologies over the years, we have often not been understood, so therefore, in a time of grief, it can be difficult to find peace through conventional support, leading many to avoid such situations. And this needs to change!
This is why Black Mums Upfront are working with Sands, to find out where bereavement support services are currently going wrong, and what Black bereaved parents would desire in order to feel understood, valued and cared for.
