Our Chief Executive Clea Harmer attended an Investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle this week, where she was presented with an MBE.
Clea was awarded the MBE in the 2022 Birthday Honours List, for her services to baby loss awareness and supporting bereaved parents.
An Investiture is the day when someone who has been awarded an honour receives their award in person from a Member of the Royal Family, and Clea was given her award by HRH Princess Anne, the Princess Royal.
Sands is incredibly proud of Clea for receiving this recognition, and we thank her for her leadership and support.
"It is an enormous honour to have been presented with this award, but this award is not for me - it is for everyone in Sands and in the baby loss community.
"The real reason that it means so much to me is that it recognises how important baby loss is – the impact that it has on so many people and families, and the difference we can all make when we come together as a community to raise awareness, to save babies’ lives, and to make sure bereavement support and care are there for all who need it."
- Clea Harmer, Chief Executive
Around 30 Investitures are held each year, and over sixty recipients attend each ceremony, either in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace, or in the Grand Reception Room at Windsor Castle. Investitures also happen occasionally at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, or overseas during State or Royal visits.
