Sands has supported a series of research projects that have listened to parents to highlight areas where maternity care needs to improve, thoroughly investigated those areas and are researching how current practice can be improved in order to make maternity care safer for babies, parents and families.
Improving conversations in neonatal care
Sands has supported research into improving conversations between doctors and parents in neonatal care settings. This focusses on conversations that take place when decisions are made about moving a baby onto palliative care.
Improving care for babies born unexpectedly outside hospital
Sands has supported award-winning research that has brought about changes to the ways paramedics and 999-call handlers ensure babies are kept warm in situations where births happen unexpectedly outside of hospital.
