Fiona Johnson, Sands befriender and committee member of Hull and East Yorkshire Sands, recently represented Sands at a local student midwifery study day. It was the first study ever held by Hull University’s Midwifery Society and Sands was kindly invited to talk about bereavement care following a stillbirth or neonatal death. 

Fiona attended the whole day and   gave a presentation on behalf of Sands. She outlined the work Sands does and support available both at a local and national level.  Fiona also went on to talk about her personal experience and the loss of her baby Euan.

Sands literature was on hand at the event as well as memory boxes to show the student midwives the kind of tools available to help support bereaved families. Attendees at the day also received copies of Fiona’s presentation.

Fiona commented, “It was a really interesting day and hopefully the start of a strong link between Hull and East Yorkshire Sands and local student midwives of the future. I am very grateful to the Hull Midwifery Society for allowing me to attend.”
