The Fundraising Team, Sands | 12 April 2018

In the build up to the Virgin Money London Marathon we're meeting a few of our wonderful #TeamSands runners. If you're interested in becoming a #TeamSands supporter, check out our list of exciting fundraising events.

Name: Polly

From: Northampton

Why you are running for Sands?

Sands came indirectly into my life when my cousins Selina and David lost baby Sam during birth in November 2011. Following such a devastating event that nobody can imagine comes an overwhelming storm of emotions. Sands were an invaluable part of the bereavement process when Sam passed away. When nobody knew how to help or what to say, Sands were there to give all the support they could.

What has been your biggest challenge while training?

The Beast from the East…. typically since starting my 17 week training plan it has snowed about 4 times, not only mentally preparing myself for braving the cold but making sure I don’t slip and break my ankle mid training. I had planned my pudding and prosecco fundraising event for 2nd March but due to the amount of snow we had in Northampton I had to postpone, I was devastated but thank god for my amazing friends and family! We pulled it out of the bag when we rearranged it for 29th March- we raised a fantastic £1,938 on the evening.
