Alongside our partners, supporters and volunteers across the UK, we're a team of caring, highly skilled staff working to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, improve bereavement care and fund research to save babies' lives. In this series of blogs, you can meet members of our team, hear about why they chose to work for Sands, and what inspires them. The charity is divided into different departments, which work closely together to provide a lifeline when a baby dies.
Meet Ala Jelisejeva, Sands Digital Engagement Officer
What does your day to day job involve?
My role is to engage different audiences on our digital platforms such as social media and website, create new content to reach more people online and support Sands staff and volunteers with their digital enquiries and needs.
What do you find most rewarding?
I love how multifaceted Sands is and there's always something amazing to promote and shout about. I like to tell the story of what we do from local support to research and influencing government policies.
What is your proudest moment in your career?
In 2018-19 I Ied the re-branding and development of new website for City Gateway charity. The re-brand helped reach more disadvantaged young people and recruitment to courses grew threefold. Bounce rate on the website went down from 50% to 1%, which meant everyone who visited the website found it useful, engaging and user-friendly and didn't click off.
What do you love most about Sands?
I love how passionate everyone is about providing best possible care to bereaved parents and families. Colleagues are very friendly, compassionate, innovative and we achieve so much even though we are only a small charity.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Currently I enjoy volunteering with other charities and running a support group for thyroid patients. I'm also in the midst of decorating my house and can spend hours looking for the perfect piece of furniture or light fixture.
