Thousands of babies tragically die each year. In 2013, 5712 babies were stillborn or died soon after birth in the UK, shattering the lives of expectant parents, their families and their friends and the people who have cared for them.
That’s why bereaved mother Emily Parsons, is one of a group of local parents on a mission to provide support to fellow bereaved families.
Working with Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, Emily and two fellow bereaved parents have launched the Peterborough & Stamford Sands group offering people who live locally and who have been affected by the death of a baby to come along to support meetings.
The group will kicked off with it's first support meeting in October at Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service, 3 Lincoln Court, Lincoln Road, Peterborough, PE1 2RP.
The group second support meeting will take on Monday 16th November from 7.30-9.30pm. Meetings will then continue to be held monthly. Dates will vary month to month. Please see www.sandspeterborough.co.uk for more information.
The new Group hopes that parents and families in Cambridgeshire and parts of Lincolnshire including Peterborough, Stamford, Oundle, Bourne, Wisbech, Spalding, Huntingdon and surrounding areas will find great benefit from the new support, and they also have plans to fundraise in the near future.

“In Peterborough and the surrounding areas there is no informal support for bereaved parents and family members that have had the sad experience of the loss of a baby. We have recognised that this lack of support needs addressing, and that is why we have decided to set up a Sands support group to help raise awareness and help others who suffer a baby loss.”
