We are thrilled to be publishing our first eBook ‘How I Came To Hold You’ by Ben Wakeling (also available in paperback).
Every day in the UK 17 babies are stillborn or die shortly after birth. Behind each baby is a family rocked to its foundations by their loss. Many parents who have suffered such a terrible tragedy do go on to have more children - but this brings with it a mixture of emotions: relief, happiness, anxiety...even fear. It is a time of nervous expectation, with some parents saying they 'held their breath' for nine months.
Author, Ben Wakeling’s own experience was the impetus for this project. 'How I Came To Hold You' tells the powerful real-life stories of 17 families, each of whom has experienced the heartbreaking death of their child and then taken the step of becoming pregnant again. Their inspirational stories give a unique insight into the hearts and minds of these parents as they recollect the darkest days of their lives, how they came to the decision to try for another baby, and the challenges and emotions they experienced when expecting once again.
"Heartbreaking and heartwarming...these stories embody tragedy, hope and love." Kym Lomas (née Marsh), actress and bereaved mum
We hope that these stories will provide other parents embarking on a pregnancy after the death of their baby with advice, support, inspiration and encouragement.
We are hugely grateful to all the parents who have shared their stories in this wonderful book and extend our heartfelt thanks to them all and to Ben for making it all happen.
All profits from the sale of the book will go to Sands. ‘How I Came to Hold You’ is available as an e-book for £2.99 from Amazon or in paperback via the Sands online shop retailing at £6.99.
