We are delighted to receive a donation of £3,062.20 from the Non Food Grocery team at Sainsbury’s. This donation was made on behalf of one of their colleagues whose baby sadly died last year.
Jas Chagar and his wife Tik’s baby daughter, Amita Parkash Chagar, was stillborn in October 2015. Deeply affected by this loss, Jas’ colleagues decided to raise money in Amita’s memory. They organised a quiz evening at their Holborn offices which raised a grand total of £2,462.20 in one night, and the company donated a further £600 made available from a central Sainsbury’s fund to support annual charity partners.
Last month Sarah Mackay, Senior Trust and Corporate Fundraiser for Sands, was able to visit Sainsbury’s to attend the team’s monthly meeting. As well as receiving the cheque on behalf of the charity, she was able to speak directly with colleagues to give an overview of Sands’ work and show just how their fundraising will help make a difference.
Acting Chief Executive of Sands, Judith Abela, said: “The efforts and dedication of our fundraisers never fail to amaze us here at Sands. We depend almost entirely on the generosity of our supporters to help bereaved parents and their families, work with health professionals to improve bereavement care and fund research to save babies’ lives. We cannot thank Jas and the Non Food Grocery team at Sainsbury’s enough for organising this fantastic fundraising event for Sands and in memory of baby Amita.”
Jas and Tik Chagar have since shared with us the beautiful inscription that they wrote in the remembrance book in the hospital chapel: “Amita Parkash Chagar, as you lay in Buddha’s arms at peace. Your beautiful memory in our hearts shall not cease.”
We are so grateful for all the support we have received from Jas and his colleagues to date. Thank you.
