We have published a new booklet: Sexual relationships after the death of a baby. The booklet is based on information shared by bereaved parents about what they needed to know, how they felt and how they reacted when it came to sex and intimacy.
Co-author, Judith Schott, says: ‘The grief that follows the death of a baby affects every aspect of a couple’s lives, including their relationship and their sex life. Recovering physically and emotionally after the death of a baby, and getting back to what some call a ‘new normal’, takes time. This also applies to a couple’s sex life.
Our booklet tackles this hard to talk about and therefore often-neglected area. It helps provide couples support, guidance and reassurance.’
Sexual relationships after the death of a baby covers the emotional and practical physical factors of resuming a sex life, and tackles issues from both a male and female perspective and is relevant to both same-sex and heterosexual couples. The thoughts of both mums and dads are featured throughout.
The new 28page booklet replaces our previous 4page leaflet. It has been written with the help of bereaved parents and we are very grateful to everyone who has contributed.
