We welcome Jeremy Hunt’s announcement that the Health and Social Care committee have launched an inquiry into Maternity Safety. It is crucial that the experiences of families who have suffered the death of a baby are included in this enquiry and are used to inform any necessary improvements to maternity safety.
We hope that this enquiry will explore how to establish an integrated maternity safety system that can identify problems early and support NHS Trusts to improve. It is also an opportunity to highlight not only those initiatives which are working in practice, but also those actions which remain outstanding from previous enquiries Hospitals need to be supported to provide the safest care possible.
