Charlie only had a short time on this earth, 36 weeks and 3 days to be precise. He was born sleeping with the angels but for those 36 weeks and 3 days he lived with us every second.

This is Charlie’s story…...

Hello, I’m Charlie Gordon Hubbard, I was born on the 4th of January 2019 weighing 5lb 10oz.

It’s the 24th of April 2018 and I’ve just popped into existence. I don’t have a name yet, but Mummy and Daddy will soon name me Charlie. They have no idea I’m hiding down here, and I can’t wait for them to find out.

6 weeks have passed now, and the game is up, they’ve discovered I’m hiding here, and I can feel the warmth of Mummy’s hands on her tummy as she realises.

It’s now the 27th of August and my hearing is getting better, I hear sounds all around, my big sister is laughing. She’s ripping wallpaper off with Daddy and starting to get the house ready for me. The day after we’re in the car, Mummy says we’re going to Matlock. Mummy’s got a cup of tea, the sugar makes me happy, so I do a little dance and feel Mummy hold her tummy.

A couple of days later I can hear Isobel getting very excited in the morning, I hear Daddy say its her first day at school. I’m so happy I get to walk her to school on her first day. I hope she makes lots of new friends.

It’s the 11th of September and today Mummy and Daddy will find out that I’m a boy. But not before I’ve had some fun. I can feel something pressing down trying to see me, so I turn my back, cross my legs and put my hands in the way. I’m happy now as mummy must jump up and down, run around and I’m definitely not budging. I get my way and Mummy is sent for a sugary cup of tea, I kick her in the ribs to say thank you.

4 days later and it’s the 15th of September now, Mummy and Daddy can’t wait to tell everyone I’m a boy. My big sister keeps shouting bacon shop and we’re in the car again. I love going in the car and listening to my family singing and laughing. I don’t love a big breakfast quite so much though so I’m going to make sure Mummy see’s this one again. We go to Nanny Juju’s later and I hear everyone screaming “It’s a boy” when they find out. I get tired and have a sleep, when I wake up Mummy and Daddy are having a fire, Mummy has a hot chocolate and the sugar makes me roll around in excitement, I kick Mummy in the ribs again to let her know it’s my favourite. The next day we go to Mamma’s and I hear everyone screaming “It’s a boy” again. That night Isobel’s blowing raspberries on mummy’s tummy, it tickles me, so I kick mummy in the ribs again, I’m sure she enjoys it.

Its the 15th of October and I can’t get any sleep. There’s a lot of banging going on and everybody is very excited. My Daddy’s building my new room. No one’s ever built me anything before. They must think I’m super special. There’s all kind of noise for a few days and then we’re in the car again. Isobel is very happy and I’m going to my first kids park. I can hear Isobel screaming on the big slides and laughing at some funny goats. I know all of this because my Mummy never stops talking to me.

It’s mid-November now and my Mummy and Daddy are having their birthdays. We’re sat by another fire and they’re talking about the future, I start kicking to say hello and Mummy grabs Daddy’s hand, I stop straight away. I love playing tricks on Mummy and Daddy.

It’s getting a bit cramped in here and everyone keeps talking about something called Christmas. They seem very excited and Isobel’s not stopped talking about Santa for weeks. Mummy is full up on a tasty dinner and I give her another kick in the ribs to say thank you. The next day Isobel tells me its boxing day, which is just a little bit of Christmas. There’s a party going on, my first ever one, its so loud, lots of the family are here, laughing and having fun. Mummy tells me its too busy and we’re both getting tired. Everybody goes and its nap time for me.

The 4th of January now and I can hear mummy’s heart beating just the same as always, soothing and calming. I’m surrounded by warmth and love the same as every day, but something is different today, I’m being called somewhere new,

I think I have to go now,

There is no reason why,

I love you everybody,

I’ll wait for you on the other side.
