Sands 40th anniversary
Networks & Volunteering Team, Sands | 6 November 2018

I’ve been volunteering for Sands for 20 years; I got involved with Sands in 1998 and we started the Fraserburgh & Peterhead Sands group, which has now become Banff & Buchan Sands. At the time, there wasn’t a group in the area, the nearest group was in Aberdeen, which was 40 miles away. I have been Chair of the group all that time, and sometimes I’ve been joint chair with others.

I’m most proud of the Sands garden and Sands memorial stone that our group has created within Aden Country Park; it was our first big achievement as a group. Recent additions to the garden include some seats, and toadstools that have our babies’ names on.

Christopher Somerville, Scottish Network Coordinator, said: “Caroline is a key person in Banff & Buchan Sands, having given 20 years to Sands. There is excellent local support in the area and a real community understanding of Sands thanks to Caroline and her team.
