Every parent expects to bring their baby home, but tragically we know for thousands of people every year this is not the case.

For so many families that have experienced baby loss, this time of year can be especially difficult.  With so much focus on family and togetherness, the thought of Christmas can be anything but a celebration. Those living with loss can feel even more isolated and alone in their grief.

In 2020 it cost just over £10,000 each week to deliver our bereavement support services across the UK.

Help us urgently to support anyone affected by pregnancy and baby loss this winter and provide a real lifeline to those struggling to cope.

Give the greatest gift you can this winter and help ensure that every parent, family member and healthcare professional can seek support right from the first moment of tragedy, through to the weeks, months and years ahead.

Donate to our appeal to help Sands provide crucial support to anyone affected by pregnancy or baby loss this winter, and make sure families are not alone.

How your gift of support could help:

£20 - provides a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby

£35 - answers a call for help from someone struggling this Christmas

£100 – helps us train a new volunteer to offer peer support to other bereaved parents

The best gifts can’t be wrapped, so will you give the gift of support by donating to Sands’ Winter Appeal?

You will be making a difference to bereaved families when they need it the most.

As a thank you, we will send you a beautiful wooden snowflake to keep.

Did you know?

Every day, 13 babies are stillborn or die within first month of their lives in the UK. That’s over 4,500 babies each year, in addition to 250,000 known pregnancies ending in miscarriage.

Sands is committed to ensuring anyone affected has the dedicated support they need.

But, over eighteen months since the first lockdown, the landscape remains challenging.

We continue to see a 30% increase in demand for our helpline and bereavement support services and the complexity of needs has increased. Since the start of the pandemic:

  • We answered over 3,000 calls to our accredited helpline.
  • We received and responded to over 5,000 emails seeking bereavement support.
  • Our bereavement support app was downloaded over 4,500 times and our GriefChat service was used by 1,200 people.
  • Our Facebook support group grew to over 2,100 members.
  • We distributed 3,700 memory boxes and over 5,000 hand and footprint kits.
  • Over 2,000 healthcare professionals attended one of our bereavement care webinar training sessions.
