Sands’ Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance and strategic direction of Sands, and it also holds legal liability. This means that the Board:

  • Defines Sands’ long-term direction – furthering its objects or purposes as set out in the Articles of Association (our governing document)
  • Makes sure that Sands is effectively and properly run with legal and other obligations met.

David Hall - Chair

David's son Ruaridh died shortly after he was born in April 1996, and his role is driven by the wish to ensure that bereaved parents receive the best possible care, and to save babies’ lives. David was appointed as Chair of Trustees in 2024.

Neil is a father to Zachary and Noah, and to Adam, who was born sleeping in 2009. Since then, Neil has seen the tremendous support that Sands has given to bereaved families, and the contribution it has made to saving babies lives. He was appointed as Treasurer in 2024.

Emma has 20 years’ experience in the voluntary sector. Sands’ compassion and support helped her family through their loss when Emma’s beautiful twin boys, Jacob and Leon, died in 2019.
