For our Together, we are Sands campaign, we are celebrating the impact of the connections made within and beyond the Sands community.

Thank you to Laura for sharing her connection to our community – a community unlike any other.

"I am a Senior Research Fellow at UWE Bristol. My area of expertise is prehospital birth (where babies are born before arrival at hospital).

"I recently led a project on the temperature measurement and management of these babies, which we are hoping will improve outcomes, reduce inequalities, and prevent neonatal deaths. Sands linked us with some bereaved parents to guide our research, and also supported recruitment to the study. Their input has been invaluable.

"I also have a personal connection to Sands, as we lost our daughter Lila in September 2020.

"I went to one of the Sands online support meetings and met another bereaved mum who lived around the corner from me. Since then we have been on weekly walks, and I don’t know what I would have done without her.

"She has become one of my closest friends, and I am so grateful to Sands for connecting us."

Read more stories of connections and keep checking for new ones throughout June.

Through all these different experiences, the one connection remains, our precious and loved babies.
