We’re pleased to announce that Sands is a finalist of the Benefact Group’s Charity Heroes Awards 2024, a new awards programme designed to celebrate and support charities working tirelessly to make positive change.

Sands was put forward for the Colleague’s Choice Award, selected by Benefact Group employees in recognition of our work supporting families affected by pregnancy and baby loss. Alongside this incredible recognition, we’re thrilled to receive a £1,000 prize, which will help us continue our work to save babies’ lives and support bereaved families.

This award is particularly special as it stems from a heartfelt nomination by Benefact Group’s ‘Giving Superstar’, Kirsty Dickson, who has been a steadfast supporter of Sands after losing her twin daughters, Amy and Evie, 14 years ago. We are deeply grateful to Kirsty for sharing her story and championing our cause.

"Fourteen years ago, I lost our twin girls, Amy and Evie, to Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. Despite keyhole surgery to correct the blood sharing imbalance, I went into premature labour just days later, and we lost both girls.

Sands, the pregnancy and baby loss charity, makes a real difference to bereaved families across the UK, providing vital support when it’s needed most. They also work tirelessly to improve bereavement care for professionals and fund research to reduce the number of babies who die, striving for a future where fewer families face such heartbreak. I’m delighted they were a finalist in Benefact Group’s Charity Heroes Awards."

"Being recognised in the Benefact Group’s Charity Heroes Award is an incredible honour. This recognition highlights the critical work we do, but more importantly, it allows us to celebrate the real heroes of our charity—our remarkable volunteers.

Lauren Smith - Head of Volunteering at Sands

Across the country, they selflessly dedicate their time and energy to supporting families, offering compassion and empathy, and being a vital lifeline for those navigating unimaginable loss. This award and fantastic prize funds will help us extend our life-changing support to even more families in desperate need.”

Last year alone, Sands supported over 2 million people, working tirelessly to save babies’ lives and provide care for families impacted by baby loss. We’re immensely proud of the difference we make in local communities across the UK, and this award inspires us to continue our work with renewed passion and commitment.
