Walk 100 kilometres this September for Sands and help us save babies' lives and support bereaved families.

Will you challenge yourself to walk 100 kilometres over the month of September?

Sands want to ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times.  We want to campaign for change and support research so that fewer babies die and so that fewer families experience the pain of losing a baby. Please step forward.

Whether you run, walk, dance or climb, be part of the team taking on Walk 100k in September.

FAQs:

How do I sign up?

To register and get your free t-shirt and fundraising pack, fill out this form here.

If you'd like, you can also join our Facebook or Strava groups to get tips, be inspired and find out anything you want to know about the challenge.

Is there an entry fee?

There is no entry fee for this challenge but we do however ask you to fundraise as part of your challenge. Your fundraiser will be set up for you automatically when you register and you can choose where to share this. The best places are on social media and by text and WhatsApp!

Is there a fundraising target?

We have no minimum or maximum amount that we would like you to raise. From our point of view, no matter how much money you raise, it will go towards supporting bereaved families across the UK, and for that we are so grateful.

Can I just raise money offline with a sponsorship form?

Absolutely. You can collect sponsorship in any way you like. If you’d like a sponsorship form, you can download one here. And please don't worry about filling in your serial number - we will do that for you.

After the challenge ends, do scan and email this to us at walk@sands.org.uk so we claim any gift aid. If you’re not able to scan or send us a clear photograph, drop us an email anyway and we can let you know where to send your form via post.

You can either add your cash donations as a self donation to your online fundraising page or you can add them via the Sands website by clicking here. Make sure to add the description that this is your sponsorship donations for your Walk 100k in September challenge.

Please do not send cash in the post.

My t-shirt doesn't fit / I ordered a different size. Can you change it?

Of course. Please email shop@shop-sands.org.uk to let us know what size you received, and what size you need. We'll then send a new t-shirt with an envelope to return the other.

When will I get my fundraising pack and t-shirt?

You should receive your pack within 10 working days of signing up (2 weeks). If you don't, please email shop@shop-sands.org.uk and we can look into this for you.

My family want to do the challenge with me. Can they have t-shirts?

No problem! Simply ask them to fill out the registration form and we will send them a pack.

If they're not fundraising, you can buy additional t-shirts.

How do I keep track of how many kilometres I've done?

We recommend using the Strava app to track your kilometres on your phone. You can join our Strava group here

If you have a pedometer, sports watch, Apple Watch or FitBit, these can usually keep track of your kilometres too.

Once you're done for the day, mark off your kilometres on your paper tracker, included in your pack and can download extra copies here.

How do I pay in my fundraising?

If you’ve collected offline fundraising, the easiest way to pay this to Sands if by  donating to your online fundraising page. All donations from your fundraising page will automatically transfer to Sands.

You can also donate on our website. Make sure to say that your money is for your Walk 100k in September challenge so that we can make sure it is added to your total.

If you’re not able to donate this way, then drop us an email to walk@sands.org.uk and we can discuss other ways of getting the donation to us.

Can I do a shorter/longer/earlier/later challenge?

Yes! Every walk you do will help Sands. So do this challenge in whatever way works best for you. Every walk is very much appreciated!

Do I have to walk my Kms, or can I jog, run, climb or dance?

It’s up to you! We think most people will walk the kilometres, but if you want to complete them a different way, then go for it! Just be sure to post your progress and updates on your Fundraising page so friends and family can cheer you on and we can see how you’re doing too!

When and where is the challenge taking place?

The walk is a 100 kilometres virtual walking challenge throughout the month of September. You can break down the 100k over the 30 days in September, and this works out to be 3.3 kilometres per a day. You can walk locally, in your nearby park and gym and walk alone or with family and friends.

You can register for your free Sands t-shirt and fundraising pack by clicking on this link.

Do I have to prove I’ve completed the challenge?

You don’t need to prove you’ve completed the challenge– we trust you! You can post videos, pictures and updates on your fundraising page and in the group though. Sharing updates is also a great way to show those who have sponsored you that you’re committed to completing the challenge.

What if I don’t complete the challenge?

The only thing that matters is that you challenge yourself. If you need to change the target, that’s okay. Do as much as you can. Every kilometre helps.

How do I stay safe in the Facebook group?

Whilst this group is Private, anyone on Facebook can join and view the content. Please take care not to share personal information, including maps sharing your location, and avoid meeting up with or messaging others outside of this group, without taking appropriate precautions.

Can I raise money on another online platform like JustGiving?

Yes, if you would like. Once registered, your fundraising page will automatically set up and all donations will automatically be transferred to Sands. but if you would like to set up a fundraising page on another online platform, we recommend JustGiving, and click here to create your JustGiving page.

My business/employer want to donate/match fund my fundraising. How do they do this?

Wonderful news, that your employer would like to match fund you! The process varies a little between companies. If you can pop us an email over to walk@sands.org.uk, we'll be more than happy to provide them with any further information they might need. Thank you so much!

Will I get a medal?

Everyone who raises over £150 will get a medal and certificate after the challenge ends. You don't need to do anything to get this. If we need any extra details from you, we'll be in touch.
